SteverStove Alcohol Burner

This is the SteverStove alcohol burner. It is a lightweight, aluminum camp stove that runs on Methyl Alcohol, commonly found in “Heet” gas line anti-freeze (the yellow bottle) available in most gas stations, auto parts and convenience stores for a couple of bucks. A couple of ounces of alcohol will boil two of cups of water in just about five minutes. The stove weighs only about an ounce, is small and packable, and is very strong, being made of .025” thick aluminum. Using this as the basis of an easily packed camp and trail cooking kit, you can enjoy hot chocolate, coffee, or full hot meals anywhere you end up in the wilderness. It makes a great handwarmer too! To operate the stove, pour approximately two ounces of Heet, or Methyl Alcohol (M.A.) in the middle of the stove, and light it. A faint blue flame will rise form the center, and after about a minute the side ports will begin generating flames as pictured. If you set the stove on a flat and burn proof surface, you can prime it by dribbling a few drops of M.A. around the outside of the stove prior to lighting, and light it after lighting the middle. This will get the side ports generating flames within seconds.
Once the stove is fully burning, simply set your cooking pot right on it. A pot with lid will boil 2 cups of water in approximately 5 minutes. Two ounces of M.A. will burn in the stove for about 12 minutes. A windscreen around the stove is needed, which can be improvised from nearly anything, such as folded up aluminum foil. The stove won’t blow out, but air movement pulls the heat away from your cooking pot. If your windscreen completely surrounds the stove, cut some small notches in the bottom to allow air to enter.
Once you are finished cooking, simply let the stove burn itself out. It will be cool in a couple of minutes and ready to pack away again. Never use any type of fuel other than Methyl Alcohol in this stove.
